Coeliac Disease A child with coeliac disease will continue to have stunted growth until gluten is removed from the diet, after which time, rapid growth and development may occur. Occult coeliac disease is a common finding among children who grow slowly for no obvious reason. The effect of a gluten-free diet in a late-diagnosed asymptomatic coeliac patient, whose only complaint was short stature, is shown in Fig. 14.16.
